MONEY TO BURN

Attending bars is like a country club we just joined. Excessive membership dues by the night not by the month. Attracted to the scenery. Only fools believe our money is well spent. Clubs and high finance is never worthwhile. High priced drinks. How much more booze you going to pour into your body? Your brain? Living carelessly. Like a ship without a rudder. No common sense to keep us on course. Wandering aimlessly among dangerous waters. Eventually the high sea waters will destroy us. Difficult to tread water in a rough open sea. The cold darkness slowly emerge. Promises in our prayers to god. Alone on a cold windy sea. No one to save us but ourselves. Sailing was not for me. I spend my days being the stranger on the shore. Too many ocean disasters? Isn’t it time to drop your anchor at the shore for the last time? And enjoy a peaceful relaxing life being sober?

BITTERNESS

All drinkers convince themselves that drinking is a good life. We live the life we created. We only have ourselves to blame what happens to us during our sober hours. While drinking we have all the answers. During our recovery time we cry in our lap. Pretending to be strong and taking it like a man. Be honest and tell your friends how weak you really are. Tired of the weakness and failures and all the lies we always told. To cover up the strange feeling that it creates in us we need to drink. Like it’s a curtain or veil to hide our immaturity from the world. Drinking tells stories about us. We can run to the shelter and comforts of booze but we can never hide the truth within. The day will arrive that we will convince ourselves we no longer want this silly pretend living. If this creates bitterness within us it is a good thing. With this feeling being carried around inside us why go out and drink and create more? End the bitterness. Create a sober life.

WILLING TO LEARN

If you are not willing to learn. Refusing and not ready to take life serious. All drinkers are guilty of this. Me included. The illusion of drinking is a fascinating career. I used to think so. No one can help you. In our present drunken situation no one can help us. Not even ourselves. We need to be willing to change to see a difference in ourselves. If you decide to learn, no one can stop you. I decided to quit drinking and I had the energy to make it work. More than anything I wanted a sober life. No matter how much I had to struggle I never wanted to return to alcohol consumption. Nothing stopped me. Offers of drinks I always refused. Because I still remember the previous drinking episodes. I wanted to learn how to stay sober. I did. Replace all the bar scenes and focus on a future. Something to learn well enough to get a job in it. Already have a job? Then study sobriety and make a career of it. People will forget what you said and did. But not the way you made them feel. Not true at all. Forgive yourself. Others will follow. Being sober is not possible for you? It is possible. All you have to do is decide to want to. Learning better will follow after.

STROLLING ON SUNDAY

We search for persons to have short visits. Staying in our private room has limits. Walking in the midst of nature creating relaxed moods. Away from the stress of life. Finding a new attitude. Strolling along the road trying to put our present miserable life behind us. We may chat with a friend or a stranger. Be it brief or sit in silence. In every encounter with nature we become relaxed. In times of stress I would stay in a special place that only I would know where it is. I would think about how good it would be to give up drinking. A private place to find an end to my miserable drinking life. An idea came to me then began my enchanted sober life. I never liked large social gatherings. I meet people in my travels. Bars is not the answer and neither is relapse. No addiction can solve any human issue. Our own understanding can be our best friend. We keep searching for a better way to solve our problems. We won’t find it in a bottle of booze. Only sobriety contains the solutions we search for.

SIDESHOW

A minor show in addition to a main attraction. As of a circus. Drinkers have strange thoughts and an odd choice of words. Here’s an example. Nice statement not to mean anything. Seems to be the case with every drinker. Most things we say makes little sense. Running a kindergarten under false pretenses. Pretty much sums up the average drinker. All the sober people around us acting more grown up than a bar full of drinkers. A lot of truth to this statement. Can’t afford to pass it by. Guaranteed to make you cry. It’s more exciting than a one man band. A sad little show in all the land. All drinkers have been the show at least once including me. Not the person I want to be so I joined the sober crowd. Let the show begin.

NIGHT PEOPLE

Night people hanging out. Looking at each other. Waiting for something to happen. While the day world is sleeping night people are creeping. When the day world stops moving night people start grooving. Got to see who is with you. Who is with me. Who is with who. We’re hanging out looking at each other. Got to see whatcha wearing, whatcha got, whatcha sharing.

Night people a song by Robert Palmer.

Double fun CD. 1978

This is mostly the reason we pursue the bar scene. A silly glamorized routine advertised to the drinking world. To sell drinks and keep us coming back for new changes. Worthless information we pay for in the end. Spending all our money and in time ruin our future. For what? To chase after stupid trivia we never need to have? Gathering at the park to play basketball will get us the same results. Being sober and a pocket full of money.

RUSTED CHAINS

The same lifeless phrase continues on that most people pay little attention to. If at all. Less energy to make changes happen. Nothing stays more constant than our old worn out excuses. Results never happen because we do not try to create them. If we want a bountiful harvest we must first plant the seed. Wanting generosity we must end the greed. To see improvements we must have the need. To stay within the sacred boundary we need loyalty to the creed. Ignoring the sacred life locked in rusted chains confined beyond the iron gate. Not large enough to move around in. The profane life is wearing thin. Only our understanding and concern for ourselves will hand us the key to unlock the chains. As long as we remain addictions free the torture of confinement will never return. Anxious to return to the chain and chamber dream home called relapse? In the end all that remains is a dark chamber filled with our own remains.
